How to Quickly Present Documents

June 9, 2020 — Jim Neumann

There may be times when you need to show a quick presentation. But maybe you don’t have the time to generate files to be used in an application like Keynote or PowerPoint. Or maybe you just need to quickly show a series of documents in your database to someone, but have no need to save a full presentation. If you ever have the need to create a simple ad-hoc slideshow, DEVONthink may be of use.

Select more than one document in a database, hold the Option key, then select View > Slideshow (or optionally, press Option-Command-Y). The selected documents will play fullscreen. The slideshow will play automatically, but you can pause the playback and use the arrow keys to move backwards and forwards through the documents.

The order of the slides is based on the current sort order of the selection. If you have an order you require, you can select View > Sort > Unsorted and drag to arrange the documents, first (top) to last (bottom).

And if you have documents in different locations, you can replicate or duplicate them into one group, sort as needed, and do your show-and-tell from that group quickly and easily.
