DEVONthink 3.8

October 7, 2021 — Eric Böhnisch-Volkmann

Our autumn release for DEVONthink for Mac, version 3.8, brings a file integrity check that helps you keep your databases healthy. It stores checksums for all your files and lets you verify the integrity of your databases, manually or via AppleScript.

We know that the data you’ve collected is only half the story. Equally important are the connections between the documents, found by our AI or manually added by you. DEVONthink 3.8 can convert WikiLinks to stable item links and update the link text for item links if needed. Use the new Mentions inspector to list documents that mention the name or aliases of a selected document in their contents. Create a summary of all mentions if needed.

If you are into Markdown you’ll like new keyboard shortcuts and more comfortable list editing. Apply JavaScript to all Markdown documents and import images by dropping or pasting them into Markdown documents.

Other improvements include new tools for annotating PDFs, a default scope for toolbar searches, and an option for manually reconnecting an indexed document to its, e.g., moved or renamed file. We have also rearranged the preferences for consistency and added new options to the See Also & Classify inspector.

Finally, you can now use JavaScript for Automation in the embedded editor, in smart rules, and in reminder alarms. And we have extended the AppleScript dictionary too.

You can find a complete list of all improvements by choosing Help > Release Notes inside the application. We recommend this free update to all users of DEVONthink for Mac. Get it by using the application’s update function or from our Download page.
