Understanding the Release Notes
When updating DEVONthink or our other applications, you might want to know what’s new and what we’ve improved? This is what the release notes are for, which we provide with every update to our apps. Here’s what’s in the notes and how they can be useful to you.
Found in the Read Me chapter of the built-in Help or our user handbook, the release notes begin with a short summary of the changes, followed by our work on the application in this structure:
- New: Additional features, anything from new functions to new automation properties and commands.
- Improved: Changes to features, e.g., extending existing behaviors, like a command supporting more file types. Improvements also include cosmetic changes and renaming, modifications for better performance and reliability.
- Fixed: Includes fixes for crashes, bugs, and unexpected behavior.
- Removed: Removing obsolete user-facing functions, e.g., removing DEVONagent plugins for non-functional sites.
At the top, there are also links to the notes of several previous releases, so you can explore earlier changes as well.
These notes not only provide you with the information about what has changed, but can also bring light to things you may not have even known about. For example, you may read about a new smart action and realize you have never explored DEVONthink’s smart rules and batch processing? Or perhaps there’s a bug fix in one of DEVONthink To Go’s settings, a setting you weren’t even aware of? So if you’re feeling like you want to get to know our applications better, to use them more fully, the release notes can uncover things for you to explore.
