DEVONthink 3.8.4
This maintenance release brings a variety of additions and improvements for the everyday life with DEVONthink for Mac. For example, a new preference lets you decide whether DEVONthink marks viewed items automatically as read or leaves it to you. A new filter pane finds multimedia files, and several inspector panes have new options. The new option to export HTML bookmarks writes the URLs of selected items as an HTML bookmarks file.
Another area that has received some love is the Markdown editor with, e.g., additions for working with lists and separators. If you’re an iPad user, you might like that DEVONthink 3.8.4 shows pencil drawings created by DEVONthink To Go 3.5 and later. Smart rules and AppleScript support you with unifying dates in names, finding or changing dates, and when dealing with Bates numbers.
As PDFs created by macOS sometimes arrive with corrupted text layers, DEVONthink 3.8.4 verifies PDFs now after creating them. It retains the image resolution after OCR, scans multi-line text metadata for item links, and sorts the annotations when extracting highlights from PDFs. When you import an HTML bookmarks file, DEVONthink keeps the hierarchy of the bookmark list as well as dates and notes, and when converting, e.g., Markdown or rich text, it retains the document’s title and certain metadata properties. The synchronization is more efficient and faster when uploading to iCloud, and it more reliably communicates with Dropbox.
