How to Get Help in DEVONthink 4

With the release of the public beta of DEVONthink 4, we’ve received a lot of questions from people, both old friends and new faces. In our new version, finding answers for yourself is even easier and more powerful.

DEVONthink 4 has a new Help viewer, custom built by us and independent from Apple’s Tips. It is not only more robust then before, it also hosts new features to aid in finding answers.

• Navigate the chapters and sections alphabetically in the sidebar on the left.
• Use the toolbar search field to look for specific words or phrases. This also supports boolean operators and wildcards, like database NEAR trouble*.
• The AI inspector on the right lets you use an external LLM to ask questions about. For example, you can pose the question, “What is a sync store?” And if your native language isn’t English, you may even ask and receives responses in another language.

Also, the user handbook has been heavily revised and updated for DEVONthink 4. At a minimum, we recommend reading the chapter Getting Started. Note: The AI search feature requires the Pro or Server edition of DEVONthink 4 and a capable AI engine and model to be set in the AI > Chat settings.
