Exclude Items from Classification

3. April 2012 — Eric Böhnisch-Volkmann

Last week we explained why one could want to exclude groups or even whole databases from tagging in DEVONthink or DEVONnote. In addition both groups and documents can be individually excluded from classification, see-also, and search. Nice, but why would you do such a thing?

For example if a document with a wide range of topics or content-wise unrelated data “disturbs” the artificial intelligence and appears over and over in the results. Or you have a group with data that you want or need to keep in the database but its contents doesn’t fit with the rest of the document collection. By excluding them from classification or see-also you get better results again. You can exclude documents with content that should not appear in searches from the index, too.

To exclude an item from classification, see-also, or search select it and open the item’s Info panel (Tools > Show Info). Check from what you would like to exclude the item.
