Catalina and the Fujitsu ScanSnap

September 10, 2019 — Eric Böhnisch-Volkmann

If you, like many of our customers, own one of the older Fujitsu ScanSnap scanners like the S300M, S500M, S510M or S1500(M), the time might have come to move to a newer model or look for alternatives.

Fujitsu has announced that they will not update the ScanSnap Manager software that drives these scanners to make them compatible to macOS Catalina; only the newer ScanSnap Home will be available for current and future versions of the Mac operating system. You can check which ScanSnap model will no longer be compatible with macOS Catalina on Fujitsu’s website.

Alternatively to buying a new scanner you could give ExactScan or VueScan a try. They both support a large number of scanners including the ScanSnap S500, S510, and S1500 models. Or, if you want to go scanner-less but still be able to digitize a piece of paper every now and then, you might want to have a look at the combination of Readdle Scanner Pro for iOS and DEVONthink To Go.
