Clip to DEVONthink and Safari 13
Just before they released macOS Catalina to the public, Apple updated Safari to version 13. An update that you probably have installed regardless whether you plan to switch to Catalina or not (the better idea at the moment). Safari 13 brings a number of great security enhancements but also one that directly affects you if you’re a DEVONthink user: It no longer supports traditional browser extensions including Ghostery or our old Clip to DEVONthink extension.
Browser extensions now have to be either mini standalone apps or be part of a larger application. With DEVONthink 3 we have rewritten the whole Clip to DEVONthink experience and integrated it into the app.
But what if you’re not ready to upgrade yet? Don’t panic. Our browser extensions for Firefox and Chrome as well as the Clip to DEVONthink bookmarklet (all browsers including Safari) continue to work just fine. So far neither Mozilla nor Google have announced any threatening changes to their architecture, and as the extensions is the same for both DEVONthink 2 and 3 we will continue to maintain them for these browsers.
Install the browser extensions or bookmarklets from our Extras page.
