DEVONthink 4.0 Beta 2
Four weeks ago we’ve released the first public beta of DEVONthink 4, introducing support for generative AI, versioning, audit-proof databases, a rewritten web interface, and much more.

Today, we’re following up with public beta 2 which adds OpenAI’s new image generation engine and Google Gemini 2.5. We also replaced some AI models with newer versions, like GPT 4.1. Other improvements include an adjustable font size for AI interactions, better transcriptions and timestamps, better link handling in the assistant, and more useful AI-based suggestions for placeholders like prices or dates. A new AI-based script tries to geolocate images in your databases.
For faster searching, there are new keyboard shortcuts for changing the search scope. Open clicked links in foreground windows or temporarily toggle between opening a document externally or inside the app. If you use a Doxie scanner, DEVONthink recognizes incoming scans for OCR. We’ve also added some new external scripts and made filtered queries in scripts much faster. And finally, we have made refinements to the interface, including refreshing icons and fine-tuning spacing.
In addition, we have a maintenance update for DEVONthink 3, too, which brings a number of improvements over from version 4.0. Download it from the Legacy Download page.
The DEVONthink 4 public betas do not require a valid license key but to use email archiving and text recognition beyond the trial limits they need to be properly licensed. Check the Upgrader’s Guide for more.
