The Global Inbox is ideally used as a place to store quickly captured data that will be filed later. Many times we’re quickly grabbing things of interest to us, but not related to any project. We make a vague mental note about filing this information later, but then forget about it as we find ourselves following other interesting ideas. Some time later we slow down and realize our global inbox has gotten out of hand. (more)

Our latest update to DEVONthink to Go, version 2.1.4, features a rewritten Action menu based on the standard iOS share sheet. Share text, images, or whole documents with as few taps as possible. Today everything revolves around research! We’ve updated all three editions of DEVONagent as well as DEVONsphere Express with support for new search engines and file formats.
DEVONagent now searches using StartPage, scans all bookmarks in DEVONthink, and brings new options for automatically filing found results in your research database. But even if you use DEVONagent Pro’s internal archive, this release is for you: Version 3.9.6 returns more comprehensive search results by finding terms across all metadata fields. (more)
The lastest update for the fast Mac email application Airmail adds DEVONthink integration. Selected email messages can be sent to DEVONthink’s inbox. They are saves as plain text documents and include a link back to the original message in Airmail. Read more about the update here. (more)
DEVONthink To Go 2.1.3, which passed Apple’s review today and became available on the App Store, follows its Mac counterpart, and now also uses our own decluttering service when clipping web pages and articles. This way we’ve made it independent of third-party services and ready for future improvements. (more)

Before our applications used only the documents, their metadata, and information derived from the way you filed them. Awareness goes much further. It tracks which applications you are using, what actions you perform, and where. Then it creates groups and files items as you work and when you return to, e.g., DEVONthink you’ll find hierarchies, tags, and connections already made for you and ready to use. (more)
Two weeks ago Instapaper silently made their public API available only to logged-in users. If you are one of the DEVONthink users whose workflow relied on Instapaper here’s the fix release for you. DEVONthink 2.9.11 now uses our own Markdownifier web service for decluttering clipped web pages and articles and so removes the dependency on a third-party service. (more)
Last Saturday our oldest employee and close friend, William B. DeVille, died at the age of 85.
Bill joined our company in 2005 at the age of 73, applying with the words “We have a very long lifespan in my family”. In uncountable forum posts and support tickets he helped our customers getting started with our products and find creative solutions for their problems. (more)
When it comes to synchronizing on any network connection, the quality and strength of your network matters — and is often not as good as you imagine. Can you hit the maximum advertised speed? Yes, but probably not sustained over the hours and hours you use it. Wireless networks are convenient, but they’re also subject to poor signal strength, noise, and other factors that can limit your sync reliablility. (more)
