How to Capture Frequently Visited Websites

We receive a lot of information as well as documents that we want to store in DEVONthink online, via a web browser. You can capture web content and save it to DEVONthink in various ways, for example by using the Clip to DEVONthink browser extension or by using DEVONthink itself as your browser. If you regularly save content from a particular website to the same location, there is another option that makes this a little easier.

Navigate to the location in your database where you want to store the content, e.g., a specific group. Choose Data > New > Bookmark and enter the URL. Alternatively, you can copy the URL in your browser, then press ⌘N in DEVONthink to create the bookmark. Now select the bookmark to view the website in DEVONthink’s built-in browser and navigate to the desired page. Choose Tools > Document: Capture > PDF and the PDF will be created in the current group alongside the bookmark. Change the name of the PDF, if needed. You could even use a smart rule to change it automatically!

The benefit of this method is that the bookmark takes you quickly to the desired website and the document is saved right in the correct location. It is therefore especially useful if, for example, you regularly save content from a news page, or you frequently shop at the same online store and want to keep your order details, invoices, and receipts. Create a group for this store, add a bookmark and order directly inside of DEVONthink.

Note: Due to the variety of web technologies, we can’t guarantee compatibility with all websites.
