We know that you care about your privacy. But we also know that from time to time you hand your iPhone or iPad to friends or colleagues. Which means that they could, in an unattented moment, open DEVONthink To Go and have a look at your databases. With its new app-wide passcode version 2.5 makes sure that they can’t. (more)
In his most recent exclusive Club MacStories newsletter Federico Viticci chatted with me about the tech industry, the difference between Mac and iOS apps, and how DEVONtechnologies approaches the problem of the data flood. We also talked about iOS 11 productivity features, Project Marzipan, and about using iOS in light aircraft cockpits. (more)
Names. Names should allow us to quickly identify something at a glance. Tiger. Yeah, I know what that is. 2012 Taxes. Got it. 4d0f1bfec91ff2472.doc… wait, what?!? To make things easier we can create a more specific name, like BankOne VISA - January 2018 Statement - PAID - 2018-01-15.pdf This is certainly more clear but such long filenames may not fully display in all applications or on smaller form factor devices. And word-wrapping can sometimes add to the confusion. (more)
One of the coolest features in Microsoft Excel is the ability to link a spreadsheet to a delimited text file (like comma- or tab-delimited) in the Finder. This allows you to populate and update the spreadsheet with the data from the text file without having to type in the data yourself. When the text file changes, Excel reflects this change in the spreadsheet too. (more)
While we’re preparing our next feature release for DEVONthink To Go, a maintainance update to version 2.4.4 has just passed Apple’s review. It enables editing existing PDF annotations without switching to edit mode and fixes issues related to rotating the device, swiping databases, the grid view, and the PDF annotation toolbar. (more)
Our synchronization technology for DEVONthink and DEVONthink To Go supports direct connections via the local network, Dropbox, and WebDAV.
WebDAV is a standard protocol for connecting to file services over the internet. You can mount WebDAV servers in the Finder just like a remote hard drive, upload and download files, or move things around. It’s a solid standard and DEVONthink can use it for managing its sync stores, folders containing all the files needed for synchronizing one or more databases between multiple devices. (more)
We’ve just released an update for DEVONthink To Go to version 2.4.3. This time it’s all about synchronization. So we added the ability to synchronize when you switch to another app. This makes sure that the changes you’ve made are uploaded to your sync store. If you lock the device, iOS immediately removes access to all encrypted data on disk to protect it. In this case DEVONthink To Go stops the synchronization quietly and retries when you come back to it later. (more)
Finding references and court opinions takes up a good part of an attorney’s or law student’s workday. Therefore DEVONagent Pro is the ideal tool for them. It helps them with in-depth research in online databases and keeps them updated when new information turns up. DEVONagent 3.10 adds Google Scholar to the already existing support for Lexis, FindLaw, and EUR-Lex for finding case law and opinions. (more)

If you find yourself often opening the same windows, tabs, and documents often, it can be a bit cumbersome. Similar to a concept found in applications like Adobe Illustrator, there is an option in DEVONthink’s Go menu: Workspaces. From the Documentation > Menus section of the Help: … (more)
